WINTER STORM UPDATE
A MESSAGE FROM TSWAILS....
Hi everyone, I realize times are tough, and we are all feeling the pinch of inflation. That's the primary reason why this is a no pay site. However, I really could use your help to raise funds for the operational costs and time I invest in this site. Donations have been significantly down this year and to reach my goal of breaking even, I have a long way to go. Many of you are daily visitors and make financial or personal decisions based on the information presented. The majority of you appreciate the honesty, accuracy, and knowledge that you gain. If you fall into any of those categories, I ask that you make a $20 dollar investment in what I feel is a unique and reliable product. That way, we can keep things rolling as they have for more than 12 years. The future is in your hands, and I hugely appreciate the generosity of those who have contributed. So again, if you find value in the site and see the effort that's put into it, please consider a minimal donation to support TSwails today. Thanks for your time and loyalty, TS
CHANGES IN LATITUDE....WINTER STORM WARNINGS CONTINUE NW
The snow system that's passing through the region today has been a what you might call "fickle" in my southeast counties. We knew amounts were going to be lower there, and a slight NW shift on the 850 low has led to even less snow. This intrusion of dry air will keep amounts SE of the Quad Cities significantly lower than my counties to the NW. Here, final amounts should remain more in the 1-4 inch range, with snow redeveloping later this afternoon.

This development has caused some of the winter storm warnings to be dropped in favor of winter weather advisories in parts of SE Iowa and WC Illinois. Otherwise, the warnings remain in effect elsewhere.

Snows have eased some in the band NW of the Quad Cities but continues to fall and accumulate. A secondary surge of energy will arrive later in the afternoon and last through evening. This will re-invigorate heavier snow across the NW half of my area, producing additional accumulations of 3-5 inches from the Quad Cities NW. That's on top of what has already fallen. If this development occurs as expected, final totals in parts of EC Iowa and a small part of NW Illinois may exceed 11 inches in spots. Lowden, Iowa in Cedar County, has already received 8.5 inches as 1:30pm. The line from Iowa City to Freeport should approximate where the double-digit accumulations are most likely. All told, 5-8" amounts should be widespread from the Quad Cities northwest, where winter storm warnings are in effect.
Here is the second wave of snow on the Des Moine Doppler that will cross the region this afternoon and evening.

Here are some of the snow reports issued so far. You can clearly see the intense snow band from SE of Des Moines up through Iowa City, Lowden, and Maquoketa.

I will be back later with new trends and snow reports. This storm is far from over, especially in the northwest half of the region. There is also another snow coming Saturday that I will have some insights on. I've been swamped today and have not had a chance to dig into it much yet, But you can bet I will. Roll weather, and if you can spare a donation, I will see to it that it's money well spent....TS
