WELCOME TO WINTER!

Sunday marked the beginning of meteorological winter, but of course we have already been getting a taste of winter weather. Cold air had a hold on the northern half of the country on Sunday:

A clipper will pass through the region Sunday evening and lead to some light snow and flurries through Monday morning:

There's some uncertainty on accumulation potential, but there could be a few tenths of an inch. Clouds will remain Monday and temperatures will remain in the 20s:

Tuesday will be sunny and cold with temperatures held below freezing once again. Wednesday will be sunny an windy as temperatures rise into the upper 30s and low 40s:

It will be a blustery day with gusts around 30-40 mph:

Temperatures get tossed right back down on Thursday:

There are some differences in what happens thereafter amongst the data. You can see the European model shows lots of ups and downs with several days running above normal:

The GFS also shows more ups and downs but keeps temperatures cooler along with much colder conditions during the middle of the month:

The GFS has been doing better with long-term trends lately, but we'll have to see how this reconciles. Regardless, we will at least get out of the deep freeze and head closer to normal.
