WELCOME TO FALL....
The Fall Equinox was at 1:49 am on Saturday so we've officially had a full day of fall now. That doesn't mean that fall weather immediately shows up, it just means we're continuing our trip around the sun. On the equinox the suns rays shine directly on the equator leading to near equal daylight and nighttime hours:
As we make our journey toward winter, the earth's tilt will lead to less daylight and eventually colder days. In fact, we're actually closer to the sun in the winter than in the summer but because the Northern Hemisphere is tilted away from the sun we are getting less direct sunlight, longer nights, and colder temperatures.
This is the time of year we start to rapidly lose daylight and you'll start to notice changes in the sunrise and sunset.
SEPT. SUNRISE SUNSET DAYLIGHT LOSS
Just in the next few days you'll see the difference! In terms of the weather, a wandering low pressure system will lead to near-normal temperatures and the chance for showers and storms between Monday and Tuesday:
As we get to the end of the week, a big ridge (high pressure system) will move in and kick the low out.
This will lead to a gradual increase in temperatures for the end of the month:
We'll talk more detail in my next post!
