THE FLIP FLOP....

After the looong stretch of bitter cold, we're on the upswing. Temperatures were running around 20 degrees below normal across the region over the last week:

Finally, temperatures advanced into the 20s and 30s Saturday, reaching the freezing mark in Cedar Rapids. Even at 8 pm, temperatures were still close to 30!

A ridge of high pressure will become dominate over the Midwest this week, acting to pump unseasonably mild air into the nation's mid-section.

Melting will begin in earnest as temperatures push to 36 north to near 46 south Sunday afternoon:

After that, it's into the mid 40s north to the low 50s south on Monday.

A weak front Monday night may lead to some light rain overnight into early Tuesday, especially north of I-80. Amounts look to be minimal in most areas, with totals generally less than 0.05 of an inch or less.

Temperatures make their way back into the 40s Tuesday, only to be off-set by another front that could lead to spotty showers late Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, especially across the north. By now, warmer air has gained control of the region.

Daytime temperatures will rise into the 40s and low 50s through the last week of February. Beyond March 3rd, trends are pointing toward a more active period of weather that includes chances of rain or snow.

Well, the worst of our cold snap is over after an agonizing 10-day period. The numbers on your thermometer will be much easier on the eyes going forward! Roll weather, Meteorologist Rebeccca Kopelman. P.S. if you can spare a donation, Mr. T. will see to it that it's money well spent....
