HERE WE SNOW...
A MESSAGE FROM TSWAILS....
Hi everyone, I realize times are tough, and we are all feeling the pinch of inflation. That's the primary reason why this is a no pay site. However, I really could use your help to raise funds for the operational costs and time I invest in this site. Donations have been significantly down this year and to reach my goal of breaking even, I have a long way to go. Many of you are daily visitors and make financial or personal decisions based on the information presented. The majority of you appreciate the honesty, accuracy, and knowledge that you gain. If you fall into any of those categories, I ask that you make a $20 dollar investment in what I feel is a unique and reliable product. That way, we can keep things rolling as they have for more than 12 years. The future is in your hands, and I hugely appreciate the generosity of those who have contributed. So again, if you find value in the site and see the effort that's put into it, please consider a minimal donation to support TSwails today. Thanks for your time and loyalty, TS
HERE WE SNOW....
The first big snow of the season is about to get underway and won't stop for several more hours. The long-lasting snow will lead to snow-covered streets through Wednesday. As a result, there are widespread Winter Storm Warnings... and as Terry alluded to the warnings were expanded to the northwest:

Snow could be falling for 12-14 hours through the day. This system will be an efficient snow producer as it will be very cold throughout the atmosphere. I think the 0z HRRR is on the right track with the latest snowfall totals:

There's been a continual trend to the northwest, leading to lesser totals in the southeast. I think the depth of the dendritic growth zone (snow zone) and high snowfall ratios will still lead to 4-6" with some totals of 6-9" near Cedar Rapids to the northwest. In the far northwest drier air may still limit totals. Here's the latest forecast from the NWS:

There will be some high snowfall rates during the late morning through the early afternoon, leading to the fluffy snow adding up. Winds won't be terribly strong, but enough to lead to some blowing and drifting in open areas:

The snow stops in the evening and temperatures will be dropping fast. We'll end up near and below zero:

The attention will turn to another storm on Friday into Saturday that could bring a mixed bag of precipitation:

More on that in the coming days...
Roll on white gold!
